Leadership Trailblazer
Warby Parker
During my time at Warby Parker, I was able to gain a thorough understanding of the skills required for feedback and supervision. The significant relationships between this experience and these competencies is clear in how it provides me with hands-on opportunity to provide and receive feedback, as well as supervise people in a dynamic retail setting. This experience is a mix of difficulties and affirmations; it requires me to adapt to different communication styles and deliver constructive feedback efficiently, while also confirming and developing my existing abilities in leadership and supervision.
Providing Feedback: At Warby Parker, I often attend feedback meetings where I provide constructive criticism to my peers and subordinates. These workshops are essential for sustaining high levels of customer service and operational efficiency. This experience dramatically improves my feedback skills by teaching me the value of clear, explicit, and actionable communication. These teach me how to provide feedback that is helpful and focused on progress, resulting in a happy and productive work atmosphere. The iterative process of providing and receiving feedback also improves my ability to accept constructive criticism and apply it to personal development.
Supervision: As part of my job, I am responsible for leading a team of salespeople. This includes monitoring their daily actions, ensuring compliance with business policies, and offering guidance and help as needed with key performance indicators. This part of my position helps me improve my supervising skills by challenging me to balance leadership and empathy. I’m learning how to efficiently manage team dynamics, delegate responsibilities, and resolve problems. The responsibility for ensuring that my team reaches performance targets and provides excellent customer service broadens my understanding of the complexity of supervision. By creating a culture of trust and respect, I am able to motivate my team and propel overall achievement.
The Women's Network
The Women’s Network at UW connects women to the competencies of mentoring and generating change by providing a venue for them to support and inspire one another. The network promotes mentoring connections in which experienced individuals guide and advise others, empowering them to achieve their objectives and overcome obstacles, Furthermore, the network spearheads projects aimed at bringing about good change in the communication, campaigning for gender equality, and encouraging women to take on leadership roles.
Empowerment: The Women’s Network empowers its members by offering chances for personal and professional development, encouraging women to take up leadership roles, and cultivating an environment of mutual support and encouragement. Being the VP of Events has helped me improve my empowerment skills by teaching me how to inspire and motivate others. I learn to recognize and praise my peers’ qualities and accomplishments, inspiring them to pursue their goals with confidence. The network’s programs and events are aimed to enhance self-esteem and leadership abilities, and have helped me appreciate the significance of establishing an empowering environment in which everyone feels valued and capable of reaching their full potential.
Creating Change: The Women’s Network is dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s leadership possibilities. As an executive team member, I take part in campaigns, workships, and activities aimed at promoting good change within the university and the community. This involvement greatly improves my ability to affect change by teaching me how to identify concerns, mobilize resources, and conduct effective advocacy and reform tactics. I learn how to collaborate with others to create projects that solve system issues, promote inclusivity, and enable women to take on leadership responsibilities. These activities expand my awareness of social justice and provide me with the skills necessary to effect real change in any setting.
UW Personal Finance
My involvement in the UW Personal Finance club has provided me with the information and tools to make informed financial decisions that have a good influence on my own and other’s lives. This group has provided me with a thorough understanding of money management, budgeting and investment fundamentals, all of which are critical to my own empowerment and the well-being of my community. During our club meetings and events, we discuss several areas of financial literacy, such as debt management, savings methods, and investment planning. These courses include discussion, interactive workshops, and practical assignments, to help us learn and apply financial topics.
In my role as RSO Relations Director, I’ve had the opportunity to put what I've learned into practice by cooperating with other campus clubs to conduct budgeting and financial planning events and workshops. These activities not only strengthen my personal financial skills, but also allow me to assist my peers in developing confidence in handling their funds, establishing a culture of financial knowledge and responsibility in our community. It’s extremely rewarding to witness the results of our work as we help each other take charge of our financial futures.
Creating Change: During the Personal Finance course, I participated in activities that pushed me to reconsider my financial habits and beliefs. This featured detailed instruction on financial literacy, investment methods, and debt management. This course considerably improves my ability to effect change by equipping me with the skills and information required to make wise financial decisions. These abilities enable me to apply smart financial tactics in my own life and advocare for better financial practices in my community. As an RSO Relations Director, I use these abilities by collaborating with other clubs on campus to arrange budgeting workshops and financial planning events, encouraging a culture of financial knowledge and responsibility among my classmates.
Helping Others: The Personal Finance club places a strong emphasis on assisting people in understanding and improving their financial situations. This includes peer mentoring sessions, group projects, and community outreach programs. The club helps me improve my ability to help others by teaching me how to express difficult financial topics in a simple, understandable manner. I learn to provide constructive counsel and help my peers guiding them to achieve financial stability. In my own work as RSO Relations Director, I use these talents to develop and implement programs that target students’ financial literacy requirements, assisting them in budgeting successfully, saving intelligently, and making sound financial decisions.
Dawg Daze Leader
My role as a Dawg Daze leader at UW is extremely rewarding because it allows me to personally influence students transferring from high school, and other backgrounds as they navigate university life. Facilitating and planning new events for these students entails more than just scheduling activities; it is also about creating a supportive environment in which they can acquire independence and thrive.
I prioritize providing students with the necessary abilities to function freely on campus. This entails organizing activities and courses that focus on important life skills like time management, study strategies, financial literacy, and using campus resources. By giving them practical tools and knowledge, I encourage students to successfully face the challenges of university life and create the most of their college experience.
One of the most exciting components of being a Dawg Daze leader is seeing students grow and transform during their transitional phase. It’s extremely rewarding to see them gain confidence and capabilities as they start their journey at UW. By assisting students on this path, I not only help them succeed academically, but also work to develop a stronger, more resilient campus community. It is an honor to help shape the experiences of incoming students and prepare them for success at UW.
